How To Remove Water Based Ink From Your Wool Rug: Carpet Cleaning Castle Rock

Some inks are made with some type of dye and some with either oil or water based. In this liquid, there are many different colors pigments.  When you have a spill on your rug, the stain you see is the pigments being effected by your carpet fibers.  Each type of stain from ink requires a a specific  chemical or heat transfer to remove it. TLC Carpet Care in Castle Rock offers some carpet cleaning tips below for tips on how to remove both oil based inks from your carpets.

Remove Oil Based Ink

If you have natural wool rug, follow these steps to remove oil based ink stains. This method works best for all water based markers.

One of the most surprising techniques for cleaning ink from carpet, in particular from natural fiber carpets, is to use a time released hydrogen peroxide.

  1. The first thing you want to do is to use a white dye free towel and blot us the stain as much as possible. You want to be sure to carefully blot from the outside in as not to spread the ink.
  2. Then take some time released peroxide and spray the peroxide evenly over the stain. You can then use a clean white towel to spread the peroxide evenly into the fibers getting it even applied.
  3. Because it is time released you will not see the ink go away till several hours later, maybe not even until the following day. If you still see it the following day apply another application of peroxide.
  4. Peroxide will take away the natural oils out of wool, so you will need a conditioner to apply the the fibers to soften the wool.
