Dry cleaning a wool rug is strong enough to remove soiling and stains while also being gentle enough to maintain the original look of your wool carpet or rug.  Dry cleaning also gets tough on bacteria that is embedded itself in the fibers of the wool without stripping the natural oils from the wool.

The downside is that some wool rugs have a thick nap and so dry cleaning may not reach deep within the fibers. With dry cleaning there is no hot water used in the cleaning process, so there are no concerns that in time the carpet will brown out due to an alkaline state. So as you can see both processes has it's pros and cons. In general thou for wool rugs that need a basic cleaning dry cleaning maybe best.
