Cleaning Spills on Upholstery Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Castle Rock Co
You’ve just spilled a cup of coffee on your sofa—what do you do now? It’s important to clean it up asap but not to panic. Follow these TLC Carpet Care recommendations to clean a spill and prevent a stain.
- Blot it up immediately before a spill spreads deep into fibers.
- For liquid spills: Blot lightly with a dye free cloth to start. Allow pressure and with the towel until no more liquid is absorbed. DO NOT SCRUB! If residue remains, see the TLC Carpet Care chart.
- For food spills: Gently scrape the substance from the upholstery with a blunt no sharp tool like a spoon, scraping carefully toward the center. Clean any wet residue as a liquid spill. For dry spills: Adding any carpet cleaning spotters to a normally dry substance may cause a permanent stain. Vacuum your upholstery with a vacuum extension, vacuum again until solids are extracted.
- Always test product for color fastness or a carpet cleaning chemical by applying to a part of a cushion on a hidden area of the upholstered piece. Allow to dry completely, then check its effect on the fabric to make sure no dye bleeding occurs
- Apply TLC Carpet Care spotter (as recommended in the stain removal guide) in recommended parts to avoid spreading the stain or causing a ring. Be patient; apply several times, blotting firmly with a dye free towel to soak up the liquid after each cleaning.
- Never agitate a fabric; rubbing could result in fraying of the fibers, loss of color, or spreading of the stain.
- Restore the nap on velvet by horse hair brush gently in the same direction.
- To avoid water stains, use a commercial fan to accelerate drying. Dry from the outer edge of the affected area toward the center.
