• If you clean immediately while the spot just happened, the chances of removal is over  90%.

• Remember not to iron or use hot-air on or around the stain until the stain is gone because heat will more than likely set the stain.

• Blot up as much of the spill as you possibly can, and scrape up as much of the solid such as stool as you can as well. If possible, you may use a roto vacuum, but you must be careful not to spread the stain.

• Make sure that you test color fastness with any chemical you intend on using for carpet cleaning. Try testing the chemical on a hidden area like in the closet to make 100% sure that it will not damage the carpet dye in any way.

• As you apply the carpet cleaning chemical, work from the outside of the stain in so not to spread the strain, this greatly helps you avoid making it worse.

• Use water to rinse out the carpet cleaning chemicals, and then blot the area as dry as you can. You can then brush the pile.

• If you are dealing with carpet and upholstery, use a white towel over the spill, and apply pressure down with something that is slightly heavy, and let it soak up the stain  to help the towel absorb the moisture and content.
